Nana Odei Ofei: Sample Our Songs

LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT (Gospel Rap)

(Music by Nana O. Ofei)
November 9, 2010
Lyrics by Joe Obeng-Darko

Nana O. Ofei had the tune of this track originally written as an instrumental orchestration.

Joe Obeng-Darko had been known to him as an ace drummer in his own right, accompanying him during church and other performances.

Joe visited Savenet Studio one day at Nana's invitation to tryout a musical backing to some Gospel Rap lyrics that Joe had been working on.  After a few dry takes, Nana thought he could hear just the piece of music that would actually  match the lyrical flow.  He fired up the music and asked Joe to do his thing.  After a few adjustments here and there, they both agreed that was the birth of a track.  Nana promised to add it to Sound Salad 2.  This is it, Joe!

Later, Cassandra and Olivia were engaged in providing some backing lines which finalized the track.  What you hear on the "Life Is What You Make It" track is pretty much the outcome of this collaborative venture.

We all hope you enjoy this serving of our Sound Salad 2.

This Gospel Rap was a collaboration with lyrics written by Joe Obeng-Darko.

This was an experiment which turned out right.  Thanks to you all: Joe, Cassandra and Olivia.

Rap is not my thing, Gospel or whatever genre; but Joe surely put his tongue in the mix in a way that got to me, even me.
